Eating out Healthier
Many of you probably wonder how does one eat out and still survive a dietary plan. Personally, I have boycotted the arches for about 3 years now. I will not eat somewhere that will do that to my body over that short of a time. (see the documentary "Supersize Me") I have also boycotted the king and the run for the border restaurant for the same amount of time.
People, you have to realize you may get a good deal but what you will pay in medical expenses or other stuff like antacids, prescriptions and co-pays really don't make it a good deal. In other words, the 99cent menu will probably cost you close to $10k by the time you are done. You could find a nice Italian restaurant and order something custom made just for you for a little less.
Can you recall anything in the ingredient list? If it isn't whole foods, what are you really putting in your mouth? Here is the ingredients for the Strawberry Shake Syrup from the red and yellow clown.
High fructose corn syrup (been hearing a lot of great stuff about this huh!)
corn syrup (what? Without all the High Fructose?)
water (well, an ingredient we all know and can pull right off the shelf)
invert sugar (What the ...)
strawberry juice concentrate (I can live with this)
citric add (OK. For the sour taste of strawberries. HUH? and as a preservative) (Don't they make this stuff in a new batch every day?)
sodium benzoate as a preservative (I guess it wasn't preserved enough)
propylene glycol (just look this one up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propylene_glycol)
artificial color (FD&C red 40, FD&C yellow (FD&C blue 1) Try looking this one up and see whats really in it.)
artificial flavor (ditto)
Those artificial colors and flavors have proven to be detrimental for children with ADHD and can cause myriads of problems with other ailments.
Choosing restaurants with more whole foods will allow your nutrient levels to increase and cause a healthier environment for your body. Even when you are at a restaurant that serves questionable food, always choose foods that are hard to duplicate with processed counterparts. i.e. when at McDonalds, choose the grilled chicken breast over the Big Mac or maybe a salad with chicken instead of the quarter pounder with cheese. At least with these choices, you can actually see and describe the origin of the food on the plate.
Most restaurants have more diet savvy items on their menu. It may pay off to ask your server about these items. Worst case scenario, ask for nutrition information when ordering. Many restaurants offer their nutrition information. Want to pre-plan? Most chain restaurants have their menus and nutritional information right online.
Even though you are going to ingest probably more than a half of day's nutrition in one meal and if you plan properly, you will eliminate most of the implications that come with poor eating. Eating healthy or at least healthier than the norm in restaurants is definitely possible. You just have to be careful. If you are too weak to bypass those tempting tasty treats of fat, cholesterol and sugary carbs, then at least take something to eliminate some of it from your digestion. One product that is great to use is from BSN Labs and it is called Cheaters Relief. Just follow the label for dosage and eat away.
You are never going to be perfect at your diet so go ahead and live once in a while. Indulge and enjoy. The most important thing you can do when you over-indulge is to get right back on the wagon the next meal. Sure your day is messed up a little but calorie-in/calorie-out is the key here. Do a little extra cardio too. Maybe take a walk with your sweetie after dinner.
Until next time, happy eating!
